It’s a new year, so I’m starting off with a new book! And what book might that be?
I’m so glad you asked.
Followers of my Facebook Author Page have likely seen this already, but it bears resharing because it’s just too awesome not to. Let me introduce you to my first foray into the paranormal romance genre, The Devil You Know…
Rule #1: Don’t tell the demons you can see them.Rule #2: Don’t let a demon think you’re useful.Rule #3: Don’t ever owe a demon anything.Aren’t there exceptions to every rule? Kendra Abbot is learning the hard way that once you bend them, you can never go back. She’s seen demons every day of her life, but it was never a problem until she caught the eye of Nicholas Grant. A yokai older than Jesus is a dangerous thing, and even more so when he wields the power of desire.Whatever Nick wants, Nick gets, but Kendra has a secret weapon. There’s power in knowledge, and she’s determined to know her enemy. When a single debt for a friend backfires in the worst way, and favors change hands, it’s Kendra caught in the middle, forcing her to create a new rule.Rule #4: never, ever sleep with your boss.
This one’s releasing January 30th, 2017 so it’s time to get excited!
But… I suppose it’s possible that alone isn’t going to be quite enough to whet your appetite, so allow me to provide an extra sneak peek between the pages for this #TeaserTuesday. Fair warning, there’s a bit of mild language in this excerpt, so if that puts you off, this might not be the book for you, but I wanted to give a clear picture of what this story entails. This is an S. A. Huchton title, so is intended for more mature audiences. All clear? Then here we go!
It was as the bride and groom danced that he found me. I almost forgot about him completely, hoping maybe he left early as I hadn’t seen him since the ceremony.
“That was an extraordinarily kind thing you did for them.”
I repressed a shudder before turning around, coming face to face with my personal oncoming train.
“That I introduced them? Not really. It wasn’t a big deal.”
The colored lights bathed him in a soft violet glow as he studied me, skin shimmering. “You saved his life and his bloodline, then erased the debt he offered you. Not many of us could say we’d have done the same.”
My eyebrows lifted, skeptical. “What, nobody does nice things for anyone without expecting payment for it?”
A salacious smirk slid across his full lips. “Oh, I do nice things for people all the time. Maybe I get something out of it, too, but not always.”
As he eased in closer, I leaned away, willing my uncooperative feet to move as his lowered voice rooted me to the floor. “And I’d be more than happy to show you how nice I can be.”
Desperately trying to save my sanity, I bit the inside of my cheek hard enough to taste blood. Hurt like a bitch, but it was enough to bring my common sense back from the edge of to-Hell-with-it.
“That’s… No, thank you. I appreciate the offer, but…”
He paused and backed up a pace. “You’re here with someone, then? I apologize. I didn’t—”
“No, it’s not…” Dammit, dammit, dammit. I blew my chance at escape. Stupid mouth. “No, but you’re not…”
Do not say human!
“I don’t know you.”
Saved it.
His shoulders instantly relaxed, and he took my hand before I could move away. With a featherlight touch, he brushed a kiss across my fingers.
“Nicholas Grant. A pleasure to meet you.”
“K-Kendra Abbot.”
Oh, crap. I was gonna lose it. How could I let him touch me? The guy was electric sex turned up to eleven just standing there, but skin to skin was straight up torture in the best possible way.
“A lovely name.”
Summoning my last ounce of willpower, I pulled away from him. “Thank you, but I can’t really take the credit for that.”
“Or those marvelous cheekbones of yours, but I’d compliment them all the same.”
Without the direct contact, my head felt marginally clearer, but that wouldn’t last if I stayed. After a quick glance at my watch, I faked utter surprise. “Is it that late already?”
“Late?” When he chuckled, I gritted my teeth, fighting off the soothing lull of the sound he made. “It’s hardly past nine.”
“I know, but I have an early morning ahead of me.” Before I could change my mind, I spun to head for my purse.
A hand on my wrist stopped me. “Early morning? But tomorrow’s Sunday.”
Through my delusion, a single word bubbled up from the fog, finding its way to my tongue. “Church.”
He dropped my wrist. “Church?”
Of all the dumb things to say.
“Yeah,” I stammered. “I have church tomorrow. I have to go in early because I’m on coffee duty this week. Pastor likes the pot ready to go no later than seven-thirty.”
My response seemed to dissuade him, so I took the opportunity to slip away. “It was nice to meet you, Mr. Grant.”
If I hadn’t been so desperate to get out of there, I might’ve had a good laugh over his confused expression. A church-going woman at a demon wedding? Well, I supposed I could’ve thought of a worse excuse.
And there’s your little taste for the week! I hope everyone’s excited, because I know I am. New stories are always a great way to kick off a new year, and this one aims to please in the most delicious way. Perhaps a little something to warm up with on a cold, winter night? ;)
So that’s all for now. I’ll be back next week with another look at this new release!
Thoughts. We needs them, Precious.
