I may have just experienced one of the most amazing weekends of my life. It definitely goes in the top 10. More to the point, it can be summed up in a word: Balticon.
Before last year, I had no idea so much awesome existed on this planet, let alone that I’d find myself sitting on panels there and espousing various bits of knowledge (some more helpful than others). That fact alone blows my mind. Me! On a panel! And people actually showed up to listen! *faint*
I lied.
I’ve been unable to get anything done today as littlest minion has been fussy and won’t let me put him down. So what’s a girl to do with only one hand free? Create more SecondLife TDT avatars!
I finally had to stop tweaking this one because the more work I did, the more she started looking like Aura. >_<
So here we have Ina, looking lovely in a garden at twilight. I really like the lighting work I did on this one. The purple shadows add an otherworldly dimension to it. In the first shot, I even gave her a few pixie friends to play with.
Another day, another experimental character shot! Aren’t you lucky!
You’d think I would have tackled Cyrus/Stephen next, but no. The wizard decided he wanted to go first (king schming, we all like Dedric better!). And so, here you have it.

I’ve decided to try a little experiment.
Just for something fun to do, I’m going to create some of the main characters from TDT in the virtual world of SecondLife. I was a little hesitant to do this at first. I don’t enjoy a story where the author decribes every little detail about a character’s appearance or setting. I like filling in some of those blanks myself. It keeps my imagination engaged.

The big news yesterday on Twitter, and in the podiobook community, was the devastating loss of Tee Morris‘ wife Natalie, also the mother to their young daughter, the infamous “Sonic Boom”.
When you see something like this happen to someone you know, different things go through your mind. I can’t speak for everyone else, but this is what went through mine:
So most years I’m a Christmas crackhead (as Jamie likes to say), and I would have posted this about a month ago, normally. This year I’ve just been hella busy and the holidays kinda snuck up on me.
Anyway, last night I went and recorded some holiday tunes and folks over on Twitter went a little nutty for them, demanding I put them up for download somewhere. Well, they asked, and I relented (yeah, really twisted my arm lol) so you can find them here, password is twitter. You’ll also note that Fever is stashed in there too. That one is there by request from some folks.

So, this afternoon, in my sickness induced nap time, I started thinking back to last year this time and immediately thought of this completely wicked setup in Second Life I played through for Halloween. It was so creepy, even a year later I’m still thinking about it. I was hoping the one for this year would be set up by now, but alas, it is not yet.
I did check out a preview for it in the Best of SL magazine. Looks bad ass btw. (Go here and jump to page 132 for the very well-written article. It actually has some great advice that could be put to use for writing as well!)
I wanted to share the story from last year’s build with you at any rate. I was looking over the notecard just a bit ago and thought it might be good for inspiration if you’re looking for something to write about for this year’s NaNoWriMo and are writing horror. I’m not an overly political person. Live and let live is my philosophy. Today, however, I feel the need to borrow a soapbox from someone and write what will undoubtedly be one of a million posts/articles/stories written today for this occasion.
Most people have their own personal stories about where they were on this day in 2001. I guess I’m no different in that respect. But I felt the need to write it down today. I want to remember those feelings and that time.

You would think by now I would have the entire story cast, yes?
Well, if you do think so, you’d be very wrong.
The thing is, I worry about all the big parts first, as they are the most difficult to cast. They can be time consuming if the characters appear in every episode, and maybe that person you think has THE perfect voice just doesn’t have that kind of time available. It’s also finding the right voice that’s difficult. I spent many hours listening to other podcasts to find just the right person for a major character. For some it was easy. I knew immediately with Cheyenne Wright and Philippa Ballantine. If either of them had said no I’m not sure what I’d have done. ^^;
