Well, it’s certainly been a while since I last posted here. Whoops.
If you aren’t following me on social media, you could be wondering where I went and what I’m up to. Short answer: nowhere and stuff n things. I’m here today to update after months of nothing here on the blog. So let’s get down to the new stuff you can go seek out and explore!
Item the first: The Devil You Know released in January as planned! If you dig paranormal romance, you definitely want to check that out. A hidden world of demons, wealth, and conspiracy with a dash of sexy times and feels thrown in? Yes, please! Get yourself some of that and thank me later. ;)
Item the second: My fifth Flipped Fairy Tale, Wild at Heart, went live on April 10th!
Once upon a time, I wandered between worlds. Part of both, but all of none, my heart longed to find its place, and I turned my back on those I loved.
Once upon a time, I spoke my greatest wish aloud. I found the peace I longed for, but the cost was too high, the price no less than everything I was.
Once upon a time, I chased down myths and legends. In a land as wild as I was, a lesson in love and friendship called to me, asking a single question: what did it truly mean to be human?
If you’ve read the other books and wonder who this one is about, wonder no more! This is Belinda’s journey as she runs from her own humanity, discovering along the way what that truly means and learning how to be enough for herself, despite what the world wants for her. I’ve taken the Russian tale of Ivan and the Firebird and gender-flipped it for this story (as I do), and you can read the original here if you’re curious about the source material.
Item the third: All! The! Exclamation! Points! The first two books in the Evolution series now exist as audiobooks! Check it out:
WHAT.
That’s right. Audiobooks! And what’s even cooler is that I have returned to the mic to narrate this series myself!
WHAAAAAAT?
And even better? I am releasing the first book, Evolution: ANGEL, for FREE as a week-by-week podcast! Every Friday a new chapter drops, and it’s already 11 chapters in. The final installment will be up in August! I am podcasting the first book ONLY, so, if you want the other two in audio, you’ll have to buy them via Amazon, Audible, or iTunes. Fair warning: the third book, Evolution: HEX, is still in production, so pace yourself on books one and two. Check the podcast promo right here:
This should be available wherever you get your podcasts, most notably iTunes, so a quick search should take you to the feed, or you can hit the link here to go directly to the source.
Try not to let the awesome overwhelm you. I know this is a lot to take in. ;)
Item the fourth: BALTICON! It’s once again that time of year, so if you’re in the Baltimore vicinity and are just dying to see me in person (because that’s a thing, I guess?), you can find me there over Memorial Day weekend. More specifically, here are the places I’ll be and when I’ll be there:
Saturday, May 27th
11 am: How to Design an Eye-Catching Book Cover – 5th Floor – Guilford
Midnight (technically Sunday): Insomniac Theatre- 6th Floor – Pride of Baltimore
Sunday, May 28th
12:30 pm: Autographs – Alex Shvartman and Starla Huchton – 5th Floor – Autograph Tables
5 pm: Worldbuilding in SF vs. Fantasy – 5th Floor – Guilford
7 pm: Author Reading – PC Haring, Starla Huchton, Michael Jones – 6th Floor – St. George
Monday, May 29th
10 am: Excuse Me, There’s Kissing In My Book: The Elements Of Romance In SFF – 5th Floor – Mt. Washington
So there’s my schedule. Nothing too crazy, but I should probably mention another element of this. If you’ve been following me on Instagram (or we’re Facebook friends), you may be aware of a new habit I picked up recently. That habit is wand-making. Like, with actual tree corpses and power tools and stuff. Alongside these, I’ve been writing little flash-fiction pieces for each one, crafting a unique personality profile for every wand as I make them. What does this have to do with Balticon? Well, I don’t want to open up an Etsy store or anything, but people have been asking me how they can purchase one of these wands from me. And so, I’m taking the little inventory I’ve got and I’ll be hauling it around the convention for anyone who would like to snag one. They’ll be $20 a piece and will all come with a printed card with the wand’s name, make up, and personality profile. I’m not taking reservations or mailing things, so it’s first come, first served. I made a long post about this on FB, but it may need restating here: this is just a fun hobby and not a full-time gig. With summer approaching, I will melt if I try to spend all day in the garage making these, so I’m not taking orders or doing online purchases or anything. People are very excited about these wands, and I am, too, BUT, it’s just for fun.
Regardless of any of that, you should be following me on Instagram anyway. I’m told that’s where all the cool kids are these days.
Item the fifth: Not really new news, but did y’all know I’m playing Dungeons and Dragons on the So Many Levels podcast? It’s true! The unparalleled Christiana Ellis is an amazing dungeon master, and alongside Jared Axelrod, Viv and Chooch Schubert, and myself, you KNOW we’re having a blast on this adventure. We do every session live on YouTube (usually every week at 8:30pm EST on Wednesdays), so you can watch us flail around and interact in the chat! If you can’t make the time slot, no worries! Christiana’s hosting an audio-only podcast version, and the video streams are archived on YouTube for at-your-leisure watching. Fair warning, the episodes do run for several hours each, similar to other shows like Critical Role, et al. It’s also newbie-friendly, so if you’ve never played D&D, but have always been curious about how it works and what it looks like, this is the show for you.
So I think that about wraps it up for news from me. Lots of neat things to keep you and me both busy! If you’re going to Balticon, be sure to drop by and say hi! And if not, I’ll see ya around the interwebs! <3
Thoughts. We needs them, Precious.
