What a weekend! I can’t believe it’s already over. It’s hard to decide where to start this post.
So, bad news first.
The Dreamer’s Thread didn’t win a Parsec Award.
No worries, though. All that saying “I’m really just ecstatic to be a Finalist” turned out to be, well, true. Not a tear was shed. Competition was tough. To be ranked among those folks was amazing for me. The ceremony was fun, also. It was great to cheer on friends as their categories were announced.
And now the other stuff. Planning the trip last minute wasn’t ideal. We ended up over 6 blocks away from most of the action, but that wasn’t too bad. We’re making reservations for next year already so we aren’t stuck in the boonies again!
I got to catch up with some folks I met at Balticon in May (Paul Cooley, P.G. Holyfield, James Durham, etc) and meet some of my personal heroes for the first time (Alex White: the man, the machine!). I actually ended up sitting on a panel on Sunday for the Dead Robots Society live recording of their podcast. Joining me was the awesomely talented James Durham (the F.E.T.I.D.U.S. podcast), the lovely Gabrielle Harbowy (from DragonMoon Press), P.G. Holyfield (author of Murder at Avedon Hill), and, of course Terry Mixon and Justin Macumber (hosts of The Dead Robots Society podcast). The episode isn’t on the feed yet, but I’ll be sure to post it when it is.
(Update: You can find the DragonCon episode here.)
New people were met as well, including some of the Skepchicks, and some science folk. They were all lovely people and very welcoming!
You’re probably wondering about two of those things in the post title. Corsets? Stan Lee? What? I’m getting there.
So, of all the things I’ve ever tweeted about, few have gotten as big a response as the twitter pictures of me in my new corset. This both disturbs and amuses me. If you weren’t there, that’s unfortunate. It was awesome. Many people stopped me and asked me about it. Many men-types did their best not to be too vulgar. My mother has no such self-control. LOL
The Stan Lee debacle (otherwise known as Stanmageddon) is a bit longer of a story. The short of it is that on Saturday night I attended a party in the P.G. Holyfield/Christiana Ellis suite. Apparently, it got a bit too loud for the man across the hall. This man was Stan Lee. Stan Lee called security on us. To hear the longer version as told by P.G. Holyfield, go check out the live from Dragon*Con episode of Geek Radio Daily’s GRDSweekly. Kate Sherrod wrote a sonnet about it too so go check it out! As for her reference to the Scotchpocalypse… *sigh* best ask Paul Cooley about that one.
There is much video of me and others floating about the interwebz, so I shall try to track them down and post links here.
Man, so much other stuff to talk about, but I think that might be enough awesome rehashing for now. Time for me to get back to class and over my post-con blues.
